Product Overview

The techniques presented in this tutorial would give you the opportunity to create some awe-inspiring portraits. Techniques that not only complement the image, but also, when executed thoroughly, would bring the full detail and potential of the image to light.

Not only does the tutorial provide an in-depth section on photography and light setup, the subsequent chapters focus extensively on retouching techniques – colour & crazy Sharpening, working with masks; dodge & burn and external plugins.

This is the type of tutorial that, once mastered, could even make a hand look like a beautiful face. At 80 minutes, the Funky portrait pro tutorial focuses on retouching the portrait images to give them that quality definition we wish we could see on our passport and I.D. photos.

The idea behind the tutorial is not only to familiarize people with the techniques, but also to help them understand the reason for using certain methods and not using others.

Photography & Light Setup

In our first section, we’re going to discuss all thoughts behind this project. We will also go through a complete light diagram and talk briefly about all light modifiers especially the two strip softboxes.

2.1 - Light Setup

In this section, we will start out with the basic raw conversion. Taking our image from camera raw (Basic adjustments) into Photoshop. We will then apply a help layer and point & talk about all dirty (dust marks etc.) areas.

In our third section we will concentrate on our first basic skin retouch (Cloning & Healing) Process. Once we have completed this task we’re duplicating the layer and creating some amazing details with an external plugin called Topaz Labs. This process will give us some crazy sharpness!

 Light Control & Eyes

In this section we’re concentrate on light control. This means building and structuring the light better with adjustment layers and individual masks.

Once we have managed to control the light! We will focus on the eyes. This means giving the eyes more of an awesome color & glow pop!

In this section, we will be working with our famous dodge & burn technique. This means creating two new unique layers, one for dodging the highlights and one for burning the shadows. This effect will give our image and awesome 3d look!

Now that we have an awesome base plate, we can start with a unique color and image look. For this process, we will be once again working with an external plugin called Nik Software color efx Pro 4

In the last section, we will be concentrating on our last 20%. Applying the final color saturation, checking sharpness & contrast and correcting all outstanding points.
